about Roots of Mexico

We are Roots of Mexico — a catering company, farm-to-table event service, farmers market vendor, and Mexican-American sourdough-based bakery rooted in tradition, local sourcing, and high-quality, from-scratch cooking. We specialize and we deeply value in traditional Mexican food by using quality, locally sourced ingredients by combining innovative and ancient cooking techniques, using pure, rooted and quality ingredients from our local farmers and imported from Mexico.

Roots of Mexico began in 2021, when I moved from San Diego, California, to Boise, Idaho. Born and raised in San Diego in a first-generation American of a Mexican cultured family and living long summers days in Veracruz, Mexico when I was a child, I never fully appreciated my culture until I moved away and realized a part of me was missing.

That realization began my journey of self-discovery. Along the way, I found a little cooking school “Season and Taste that helped me understand something deeply important: I was truly passionate about cooking. I always knew I had a strong love for food because of my family—it was what brought us together—but discovering my passion for cooking for others was something beautiful.

From there, my curiosity grew allow with the encouragement that I received from my husband. I wanted to learn more about my heritage foods while also honoring the fact that I was born in America. I began asking questions: How is our food grown? Who grows it? Where does it come from? And how can we respect the land we live on? And one day I ran into the Boise Farmers Market as a costumer I felt in LOVE knowing that there as a place to find fresh organic produce and meats just like El Mercado in my Grandma’s town. I know Idaho became the perfect place for this learning. Here, raising animals, growing food, and cultivating the land still mean more than just money. Idaho reminded me so much of Mexico in that way. That’s when I knew I wanted to bring these principles together—the appreciation of food’s origins and the understanding that what we eat deeply affects our well-being plus it makes food taste more real and better.

With that vision, I decided to share my passion. And in 2023, Roots of Mexico was born.
